OVERVIEW

Understanding IrisAcne

IrisAcne is a targeted light-based treatment designed for selected cases of active inflammatory acne.

It is intended for clients dealing with ongoing breakouts, visible inflammation, redness and excess oil rather than established acne scarring.

The treatment uses the Alma Harmony platform to deliver controlled light energy to acne-prone skin as part of a wider acne-management plan.

Acne can have multiple contributing factors, including oil production, follicular congestion, inflammation, bacteria, hormones, medication and lifestyle. For that reason, IrisAcne is best approached as one part of an individual treatment strategy rather than as a universal solution for every type of breakout.

A consultation is used to assess the type and severity of acne, skin characteristics, current products and medical history before treatment is recommended.

THE TREATMENT

How it works

IrisAcne delivers controlled light energy to acne-prone skin using an acne-focused applicator on the Alma Harmony platform.

The technology is designed to work on several factors associated with inflammatory acne. Light in the acne-treatment range can interact with naturally occurring porphyrins produced by acne-associated bacteria, while light-based treatment may also help reduce inflammatory redness and influence sebaceous-gland activity.

The objective is to create a less favourable environment for persistent inflammatory breakouts while supporting a calmer, clearer-looking complexion.

IrisAcne is non-ablative, which means it does not work by removing the skin surface in the way that resurfacing treatments such as CO2 laser do.

Treatment settings are selected according to the skin being treated, the type of acne present and the individual treatment plan.

YOUR APPOINTMENT

What to expect

our appointment begins with an assessment of the acne you are experiencing, including the type of lesions present, how long the problem has been active, products or medicines currently being used and any known triggers.

If IrisAcne is considered suitable, the skin is cleansed and appropriate eye protection is used before treatment begins.

During treatment, you may feel warmth or brief snapping sensations as light pulses are delivered across the selected area.

Temporary redness, warmth, dryness, sensitivity or mild swelling can occur afterwards. Some people may also experience a temporary increase in breakout activity as the skin responds.

A course of sessions may be recommended rather than a single appointment, depending on the type of acne present and how the skin responds over time.

Appointment Approximately 1 hour
Recovery Downtime is generally limited, although temporary redness, warmth, dryness, sensitivity or mild swelling may occur. A temporary acne flare is also possible, and individual recovery varies.

RESULTS + TIMELINE

A gradual, individual process

IrisAcne is intended to support gradual improvement in active inflammatory acne rather than produce an instant or permanent cure.

Over a course of treatment, some clients may notice fewer inflammatory lesions, less visible redness and a calmer-looking complexion.

Improvement depends on the type and severity of acne, underlying causes, skincare, hormones, medication and individual response.

Several sessions may be recommended, and treatment may work best when combined with an appropriate homecare routine or further medical assessment where acne has an underlying hormonal, inflammatory or medical component.

IrisAcne does not remove established acne scars and cannot guarantee that future breakouts will stop.

05

SUITABILITY

Is IrisAcne right for you?

IrisAcne may be considered for clients with selected forms of active inflammatory acne, particularly where breakouts are associated with visible redness and excess oil.

A consultation is required because acne varies significantly from person to person and not every form of acne is suitable for light-based treatment.

The practitioner will assess skin type, acne severity, medical history, medications, recent tanning, current skincare and whether there are signs that medical or hormonal assessment may be more appropriate.

Treatment may not be suitable where there is significant photosensitivity, certain medications, active skin infection or other factors that could increase the risk of a light-based treatment.

Severe, cystic or nodular acne may require dermatologist-led or medical management rather than aesthetic light treatment alone.

AFTERCARE

Looking after your skin afterwards

Follow the personalised aftercare advice given by the practitioner, as this should take priority over general skincare guidance.

Keep the skin clean and avoid picking, squeezing or aggressively exfoliating active breakouts.

Use a gentle skincare routine while the skin settles and avoid strong retinoids, exfoliating acids or other potentially irritating active products until you are advised they can be resumed.

Avoid tanning and unnecessary sun exposure, and use daily broad-spectrum sun protection.

Excessive heat, steam, intense exercise or anything that significantly increases facial flushing may need to be limited during the initial recovery period if advised.

Contact the clinic if you experience unexpected blistering, marked swelling, significant pain or another reaction that concerns you.

PROFESSIONAL HOMECARE

Support your skin beyond the treatment room.

Professional SkinCeuticals homecare that may complement your wider skin plan. Your practitioner will advise when products are suitable to use around treatment.
